An Artist, a Smith, a Surgeon

We went on an outing to see an exhibit at the local cultural center in Amouda. Created by a resident of the town who used to work at Tell Mozan, the exhibit consisted of miniature diorama-style explanations of craft production in Syria. To my surprise, it also turned out that this man is a metalsmith, and after touring the exhibit we went to his workshop. We got a tour of the workshop, but just when I thought it was time to go home, he showed us a small clinic in one room of his shop. Here it turns out he is also a licensed and practicing eye surgeon, and spends part of his time removing shrapnel from the eyes of people involved in industrial accidents. Now, I think I have seen everything.

Explaining the process of carding wool.

Making mud bricks in miniature.

Not sure...

Outside the workshop at sunset.

The basement workshop.

The workshop.

As usual, we draw a crowd.

Eye surgery center.

I believe this container holds all the removed shrapnel. Ew.
