Roadtrip Redux: Chapter One

Suddenly it was time to hop in the car and head back east. So I set off with my mother and sister for a cross-country adventure. Day one was a short drive from LA to Las Vegas.

Welcome to Las Vegas.

Malibu and Planet of the Apes

On my last full day in the city, Ryan and I took a trip up to Malibu for seafood and sightseeing.

This is the beach where they shot the final scene of Planet of the Apes. It seemed like an appropriate way to say goodbye to the west coast and Los Angeles.

So farewell, Los Angeles, for now. I wasn't sure it was possible, but I think I'll miss you.
On to other things, for now at least.

Karaoke Goodbye

As with all things, I prefer to celebrate with badly sung songs. So a farewell karaoke party was arranged.

In the words of Dave: Best.

Yosemite

It's not fair to see Yosemite in one day, but since we were on a very tight schedule, we proceeded to cruise through the park at moderately breakneck speeds. Here is a brief record of a brief visit. I'll be back sometime soon, I hope, to fully enjoy what this park has to offer.

El Capitan. Exciting in person, and much more exciting in photos now that I've watched Star Trek V.

Bodie

[There has been a long gap due to moving, internet issues, and general business. Sorry to my five or so regular readers.]

Our next stop was the ghost town of Bodie, a mining town now preserved as a state historic park. One of my goals before leaving California was to see a real ghost town, and this is one of the best. While much of the town is gone, there are quite a few buildings left, and plenty to be explored.
